In December, we started Explicitr when an entire community was being forced out by Tumblr and other social network giants. Our goal was to provide a safe and secure place for sharing adult content and connecting with friends. Our entire site was self funded and volunteer worked to become what it was. In a short amount of time we amounted to over 20,000 members and almost 1,000,000 images.
However, the feature requests, support tickets, and hate emails began to pour in quicker than we could ever image. Explicitr was loosing thousands of dollars that we didn’t have to gamble with. As we had to change and adapt, we found that less than 0.05% of people were supportive of our platform. The rest became hostile, threatening, and most of all… a disappointment.
What is most important to us is making sure that everyone realizes Explicitr never turned a profit. Though our goal was never to make money, we do still have to cover the large development costs, server expenses, and labor of our team.
Due to the lack of support from the community we thought we were part of, we’ve made the tough decision to cease operations on July 31, 2019.
To those who donated, supported us from the start, subscribed, and suggested; we thank you and we’ll miss you. To those who sent hate mail, hostile messages, and threats to our team; bon voyage and right back at you.
We wish the circumstances were different, but the support we thought we had was clearly just an illusion 99% of the time.
Keep Calm. Cum On. And we’ll see you on the other side.
